London Mourning in Ashes
A commemmoration of 1666 in words, music and song
2016 marks the 350th anniversary of the Great Fire of London, and so we are devising a programme to commemorate this.
We will create a picture of Restoration England in words, music and song; and then move on to the momentous events of 1666,
taking descriptions from ballads, diary entries, and other sources.
Programme will include music by Michael Locke, Thomas Brewer, John Hilton, William Lawes, John Wilson,
and many London tunes from John Playford's Dancing Master. Readings from works by Pepys, Evelyn and James Shirley
